Nurses and midwives play an important role in the field of healthcare for patients. The job of a nurse requires great responsibility and care. Out of the 500 nursing colleges and training centres in India, several are located in the state of Maharashtra. These reputed nursing colleges in Maharashtra provide theoretical as well as practical education in the field. Apart from the two major cities of the state like Mumbai and Pune which are known for their quality education, there are institutes that provide training in nursing in the districts of Amravati, Sangli, Ahmednagar, Solapur, Akola, Wardha, Nagpur and Chandrapur.

The Amravati General Hospital, College of Nursing, Wanless Hospital, Dhanrajgiriji Hospital are just a few of the well known institutes of training in nursing in the state. Students vying to become nurses receive practical instruction from their senior ward staff and their work is organized and administered by their tutors.
