Maharashtra Government had founded an autonomous Agriculture University on 18th May, 1972 with its head quarters at Dapoli, named “Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth”, for the agricultural development of konkan region. On 12th February, 2001, “Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth” has changed its name as “Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidypeeth.”
Brihan-Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are the five district of Maharashtra under the jurisdiction of Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidypeeth. The major objectives of the university include agricultural education, research and extensional education in combined path to facilitate stable agricultural development of Konkan region. Its main study focus areas are rice, horticulture and fisheries. In 1997, the institute also received an award of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
